Bike Polo Club Kraków is the second-oldest Hardcourt Bike Polo community in Poland (we started playing regularly in October 2009; Warsaw began in May 2009). Even though we’ve always struggled with the number of players and the lack of proper courts, BPCK has consistently given back to the community. We’ve organised a couple of Polish Championships and a few international tournaments, including the European Championships in 2013 (about a year after I started this blog). Players from BPCK have helped start polo scenes in Oslo, Norway, and Valencia, Spain. Kraków’s poloists have played in numerous tournaments and visited polo communities on several continents. Now, court-less for over six years, we don’t play regularly, but we take every chance we get. Last Saturday, the BPCK crew rented a van and brought a court to the mountain town of Bielsko-Biała, where a new polo club is emerging. It was awesome to play again in a big group, teach newbies, and let them experience the game on a boarded court. Yes, the boards are a little low, but they’re from the Polish Champs in 2011 in Warsaw (thank you, Warsaw Polo, for donating them!). Hope to play some more in Bielsko soon, will follow Bike Polo Bielsko Biała for updates, so should you! There's chatter about a tournament in this mountainside location, with camping a minute from the court. Until then, BPCK remains court-less, but the spirit lives on. |
